Stupid Luck

This is what happens when Richard F. Burton tries to be cute.
"Destiny may not be averted or hindered by aught, and that whatso woman willeth the same she fulfilleth however man nilleth." I translated it like this: Destiny(as personified by a woman) cannot be stopped no matter what you do.

If my destiny is to work in publishing and spend all my days with books and people who love books I would appreciate the idea of fate. However, I do not know my "destiny" and it could easily be to live in a small town forever and work at a sandwich shop-yikes.

In the story I read today a man threw a date that fatally hit another man's son in the head. Now, the accidental murderer is trying to get his life in order before his execution. If fate can turn a fruit-eater into a murderer I quake at the thought of what it could do to me. I don't know how I feel about this fate thing but I guess I'll have to keep an open mind while reading One Thousand and One Nights. Even if fate is not manipulating my life, how much control do I really have? The economy is not doing well(in case you haven't heard), I've applied for 18 jobs and heard nothing back,my dream is to work in an industry known for cronyism and I have no connections to help me get a job in publishing, or really anywhere. Maybe it is all just fate coming to get me. Too bad the whole economy had to go down the drain and screw over 17% of Americans just so my dreams couldn't come true.

I know what Arabian Nights has to say about fate, but I don't agree, at least not yet. If fate wants to catch up with my big plans fate is going to have to run a little bit faster. I feel that this moment and this sentiment could use an upbeat, positive, "I Can do it!" type of song. So, in addition to applying for jobs and reading BOOTON tomorrow I'm going to assemble a mix of these types of song. I'll need a great soundtrack to defy fate and make all my dreams come true.
